Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates your skin from the inside out for brighter, firmer skin. This treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks.
Microneedling stimulates your body’s natural wound-healing process to keep your skin healthy while minimizing cellular damage. The results may vary from person to person. We encourage multiple sessions to achieve the look you desire!
At Shaman’s Leawood, we use the SkinPen — the first FDA-approved microneedling device on the market. The convenience of the SkinPen is perfect for patients with a busy schedule and little downtime for recovery. Plus, it’s clinically proven to be effective on all skin types.
Sometimes referred to as, “Collagen Induction Therapy,” microneedling encourages the production of collagen around the injection site. As your skin is rejuvenated and regenerated in the affected area, new collagen replaces damaged scar tissue and scarring becomes less noticeable.
There are three phases to the microneedling process: Inflammation, Proliferation and Remodeling.
Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to cleanse the wound, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is re-built with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
Phase III: Remodeling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.
You may experience minor redness and irritation for only a few days after the procedure. A light numbing cream may be used to minimize discomfort during the healing process..
